I am a microbiology PhD with 10 years of biology research experience specializing in biosecurity, genetic engineering, and biotechnology. My graduate studies focused on developing innovative approaches to testing DNA synthesis screening and designing organisms for enhanced disease-resistance and well-being. I successfully defended my PhD in December 2024.
My primary research involves leading a collaborative project on DNA synthesis security, employing red-teaming methodologies to assess and improve screening protocols while identifying relevant policy implications. This work, conducted with Professor Kevin Esvelt and Shay Toner, is scheduled for publication in early 2025. My dissertation also describes the design of novel mouse models with enhanced disease resistance and improved well-being and discusses the ethical implications of such technology.
I am currently seeking opportunities that leverage my expertise in the above topics or involve pivots to other areas of interest, like public health or animal welfare. I welcome discussions about potential collaborations or employment opportunities via my email: reyedisonbiologist@gmail.com.
